APM Terminals Elizabeth has placed a substantial order with Konecranes for 34 electric Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes, with an option for a further six, as part of a modernisation push at the Port of New York and New Jersey, Port Technology International reported on 18 August 2026.

The contract covers the supply of 34 E-RTGs to APMT Elizabeth. The machines are specified as electric Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes and the order includes an option for six additional units. The report framed the procurement as an element of a wider modernisation programme at the port complex.

The order and delivery timetable

Port Technology International said the order was booked in the second quarter of 2026. Deliveries were scheduled for completion by the end of the year, according to the report.

What the supply involves

Konecranes will supply the E-RTGs to APM Terminals’ Elizabeth facility under the agreement. The option for six more cranes gives APMT flexibility to expand the fleet should operational requirements or throughput volumes demand it.

The transaction forms part of ongoing investment at the Port of New York and New Jersey identified in the report. Port Technology International described the procurement as linked to a broader modernisation programme at the complex serving New York and New Jersey.

Booking the order in Q2 2026 places the contract among equipment purchases recorded in the first half of the year. The supplier and terminal operator arranged the schedule so that deliveries would be completed by year end, according to the published note.

APMT Elizabeth’s decision to take electric RTGs reflects an equipment choice highlighted in the notice. The report did not supply further technical specifications or financial terms, and it confined its account to the number of cranes, the option and the timing of the booking and deliveries.

Konecranes and APM Terminals released the information through the industry notice reported by Port Technology International, which set out the basic contractual elements without additional comment on operational deployment or integration with existing terminal systems.

The equipment order will now move into production and delivery phases as scheduled. Stakeholders at the port and in the container supply chain will monitor installation and commissioning once the cranes arrive at APMT Elizabeth.
