DNV has published its July 2025 edition of class rules and documents for ships and offshore units, with the suite scheduled to enter into force on 1 January 2026. The Norwegian classification society said the edition follows a hearing process and comprises 119 published documents.
The revision introduces operational qualifiers and new class notations intended to broaden the society's rule set for both conventional and specialised offshore operations. The documents are the result of DNV's internal update cycle and the external hearing that preceded final publication.
New operational qualifiers
Among the changes is an Offshore service vessel qualifier designed to address the particular operational profile of vessels serving the offshore sector. The edition also adds a T-LOG qualifier aimed at improved reporting from anchor-handling operations, reflecting a focus on stronger operational data capture.
Sustainability and integrity notations
DNV's offshore rules include a Sustainability class notation that the society says can be used to demonstrate compliance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The edition also introduces an MIM class notation for mooring integrity management to formalise requirements for monitoring and maintaining mooring systems.
Revisions across the offshore rule book address a range of technical topics. The published updates cover materials, fabrication and testing provisions together with structural requirements for column-stabilised units, tension-leg platforms and deep-draught floating units, as well as electrical systems.
The society has positioned these technical adjustments as part of the comprehensive set of 119 documents released in July 2025. DNV indicated the changes are to be applied from the stated enforcement date, giving owners, designers and yards a defined transition period before 1 January 2026.
Taken together, the new edition expands class coverage for offshore service operations and refines requirements for design, construction and operational reporting. The changes aim to provide clearer pathways for operators and stakeholders seeking class confirmation under the updated framework.
Industry participants will now have the remainder of 2025 to review the published documents and align procedures and documentation with the new qualifiers and notations ahead of the enforcement date. DNV's published pack of 119 documents will serve as the reference set once the edition becomes effective in January 2026.
