Royal Caribbean has revealed details of its new ship Legend of the Seas, which the line says will begin seven-night Western Mediterranean sailings from Barcelona and Civitavecchia in July 2026 before entering the Caribbean market from Fort Lauderdale in November 2026.

The vessel is organised around eight neighbourhoods and is being presented as a family-focused ship with an expanded leisure offer, Royal Caribbean said. The line highlights a large waterpark in a Category 6 zone that comprises six waterslides and is being promoted as the largest waterpark at sea.

Design and public spaces

Legend of the Seas carries multiple pool and relaxation areas, with seven pools and 10 whirlpools distributed across its neighbourhoods, and a major outward-facing feature in the form of the 154-foot Crown's Edge attraction. The ship will also host more than 20 bars, lounges and live-music venues intended to provide a range of atmospheres for passengers of different ages and tastes.

Dining on board is set to be extensive, with 28 separate dining outlets listed by the company, including new concepts such as Royal Railway, Legend Station and the Hollywoodland Supper Club. Entertainment plans include a full production of the Broadway musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory alongside a mix of other stage shows and live entertainment offerings, according to the announcement.

Itineraries and markets

After the inaugural summer programme of seven-night Western Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona and Civitavecchia, Royal Caribbean plans to reposition Legend of the Seas to Fort Lauderdale for a Caribbean season beginning in November 2026. The Caribbean deployment will feature a mix of six-night Western Caribbean and eight-night Southern Caribbean itineraries, giving the ship a combination of shorter and longer options for hotel and shore-time balance.

On paper, the offering is clearly aimed at family groups and mixed-age parties, pairing waterpark attractions and family-friendly shows with an expanded portfolio of bars and evening venues for adults. Royal Caribbean’s own announcement frames the vessel as providing “next-level family experiences”, emphasising both the scale of the leisure facilities and the variety of food and entertainment choices on board.

Environmental and technical features are part of the specification, with the ship planned as Royal Caribbean’s fourth liquefied natural gas-fuelled vessel. The company has said Legend of the Seas will include waste-heat recovery systems and shore-power capability, measures that are standard considerations in recent newbuilds seeking greater fuel flexibility and reduced port emissions.

The combination of LNG propulsion, heat-recovery technology and shore-power readiness places the ship alongside a growing fleet trend towards alternative fuels and energy-efficiency measures, while the family-orientated public spaces and broad dining offer reflect a commercial push to capture multi-generational holiday bookings. Royal Caribbean’s description ties these elements together as part of the ship’s overall positioning for both the European and Caribbean seasons.

Practical details released by the line name Barcelona and Civitavecchia as the summer embarkation ports and Fort Lauderdale as the winter homeport, with service switches scheduled for July and November 2026 respectively. Beyond the itinerary outline and the catalogued onboard features, Royal Caribbean’s announcement is the principal source of the information supplied about the ship’s programme and onboard concept.

The line’s marketing points underline a focus on large-scale attractions and a wide variety of guest choices: a Category 6 waterpark with six slides, 28 dining options including themed venues, seven pools, 10 whirlpools, the Crown's Edge feature and a roster of live entertainment topped by a Broadway show. Those elements will form the core of Legend of the Seas’ appeal as it moves between Mediterranean and Caribbean markets in the 2026 season, according to Royal Caribbean.
