Hong Kong-based Jinhui Shipping and Transportation has placed an order for two 64,500-dwt bulk carriers with Jiangmen Nanyang Ship Engineering for a combined $71.4 million, MarineLink reported on 21 September 2026.

Two wholly owned Jinhui subsidiaries signed the contracts, the report said, underlining the company’s ongoing fleet renewal and expansion programme.

The vessels’ noted deadweight of 64,500 tonnes places them in the mid-sized bulk carrier sector commonly deployed on coastal and regional bulk trades. The order value of $71.4 million reflects the total price for both hulls as announced.

Design and market role

Mid-sized bulk carriers of this scale are typically selected for their flexibility across a range of bulk cargoes and port constraints. Operators renewing fleets with such tonnage often aim to balance cargo versatility with operating economics.

Jiangmen Nanyang Ship Engineering, the Chinese yard named in the announcement, will build the two ships. The contract strengthens the yard’s book while contributing to Jinhui’s stated fleet modernisation drive.

Strategic implications for Jinhui

For Jinhui Shipping and Transportation, the order continues a pattern of measured fleet investment intended to refresh older tonnage and support growth. The placement via wholly owned subsidiaries is a common corporate structure for ship acquisitions.

MarineLink’s item provides the core transaction details but does not disclose delivery dates, financing arrangements or specific technical particulars of the newbuilds. Those details will be material to assessing the vessels’ compliance with emerging emissions rules and the group’s longer-term operating costs.

The purchase comes amid an industry-wide emphasis on efficiency and regulatory alignment as owners replace ageing ships. For Jinhui, adding two mid-sized units may be intended to preserve commercial flexibility while upgrading the age profile of its fleet.

Further announcements from Jinhui or the builder are likely to follow with technical specifications, delivery schedules and financing terms. For now the confirmed facts are the order, the ship size, the builder and the combined price as reported by MarineLink on 21 September 2026.
